ok so ive done lots of small trial and error here at the current place but i have some pretty cool plans coming into my head at the new place. 3 main ideas are really looking good. first making rectangular wood frames to make raised bed style structures on the ground. then planting under wood chips and adding a little rock dust in each one. putting these in rows and leaving room to run a little 2 foot high on the ground chicken tractor for meat chicken between them and rotating my rows and chicken area annually and moving the chickens daily of course. second an egg layer pen/compost pile and add compost to the garden regularly and let the constant ground moving keep the layer pen clean. and the third one is talapia and rice. use an air lift pump and a bell siphon to keep things rolling. do that in the greenhouse and also some fruit trees and hedge the entire yard with apple trees, blueberries, blackberries, tomatoes and anything else good and perennial that will do will on a fence. anybody that has any other good system ideas for the new place id love to hear em. im going to be starting all over so i hopefully can get some good stuff working over there from the get go.

Can't quite grasp the picture of it all, but jus remember that chicken poop is too hot for immediate gardening. We let ours rest a yr (compost) b4 adding to garden...whereas rabbit poo can b added immediately. Something about nitrogen content I think...burns crops. We pretty much share what we been doin on here. Ya hafta think about the diet for yer family...u prob. Want a milk source, so cow or goat. (Which is meat too) N then hafta b sure can feed animals unconventionally n medicate etc.
haven't ventured the fish route cuz maxed out in our current regimen. I can say we knew a guy that did them n lost everything in a power outage... So back up power is a must w the fishies. That reminds me a big smoker is on our 'to do' list...as preservation is just as important as having the resource itself.
The best is hands on gradual growth for a farm so u can axe the things that aren't efficient or profitable, but for your situation u may wanna find locals that are actually living the lifestyle n hang out, mentor n learn from them, cuz climate specific- region is wise.

if you have access to a welder smokers are a very simple design to make out of some scrap.

I think we're doing it shed style w barn roofing liner (scrap of course)... Our issue is somebody gotta make it n time time time. We've asked the local retired lawnmower repair guy if he wanna help us for $ but its still busy season for him. I found an ad on craigslist for handyman type but stingy not comfortable w having strangers (understandably so...wud hafta transport the person too). Another helper to pray for I guess.
