In the UK, our energy bills are constantly rising, with the poorest speaking of having to choose between heating or food. Yet, we were recently told to expect another 20% rise next year! In the meantime, the energy companies are making ridiculous amounts of profit and the bosses continue to get incredibly high salaries. We are told that the profits will be put to good use for future energy, yet instead of increasing government grants / loans for installing renewable energy on domestic properties, these have been stopped all together. This video has had almost 3 million views so far. It demononstrates an example of the type of heating technique that some are resorting to in the UK - despite warnings against fire hazards, etc.

yeah and there are so many givers in this world that would love to help give blankets or pay for the electric bills for these people or what have you, so much is wasted elsewhere and if you could just get the help that exists to the people who need it God could show His love and blessing to everyone through those who are financially blessed enough to have food and heat and indoor plumbing. those 3 things alone put those who have them in the top 5%-10% of wealth on this earth, so many don't see the blessings we have been given and think someone 'rich' should be helping when the hard truth is we who have internet are rich already by global standards of living

It is ungodly government to legislate this to happen and then fail to control the greed they licensed. There is a bigger wealth gap in the USA. We can protect our loved ones, give but most of all pray.

We tried this last night,n it sure is dangerous...could realy see how things cud go wrong. I think building a kind of brick and mortor one - around it, would be tons safer. I'd rather go the rocket mass heater if i gotta build tho. If we ever get or own barn, id do it there for practice... but at the rate Isreal is getting pushed Psalm 91 may jus be it for focus.

Yes, the rocket mass heater is definately something worth trying - I hope to the get the chance at some stage too. I haven't tried the candles / pot thing myself, so can't comment on effectiveness and I'm not sure I would recommend (for a home situation anyway).
I'm looking into solar and wind power - but, it's all so very expensive and much of the financial help for this has dried up. Nevertheless, watch this space.

ya know if your feeling inventive I've seen some way better alternative energy for home but none is mass produced, its all make it yourself stuff (which is why i don't have any lol).
i jumped up one day a couple years ago and bought a solar panel, then i started looking into it and realized i needed another several hundred dollars worth of stuff to make it work. not plug and play at all. you have to build a whole system. woulda put me out about 700 to get daytime only electricity equal to one wall outlet. and with batteries could make it round the clock and lots more power then just charge the batteries. but the batteries are really expensive and only last like 7 or 8 years so they would be a recurring expense. I'm not into recurring expenses:) so all in all i found out that solar would take a lifetime to ever pay for itself in reduced electric bills. its just doesn't work well enough yet, wind doesn't either. but i have a few things in my head that would work but idk how to make stuff. but either a string of magnet systems or a pump and multiple water wheels could both work, just a matter of inventing it. problem with the magnets is heat and problem with water wheels is space but either would physically work. they have a name for this stuff, open circuit system or something like that. if your inventive and creative its worth giving a shot

We have been paying £123 a month for gas and electricity for the last year only to be told this week that we owe them £800+. The monthly bill has gone to £299! We have no aquarium, Jacuzzi, electric or under floor heaters. The UK cost of fuel has gone silly. Yeh, that rocket burner looks good.

That's a lot Warrior – and it's probably going to go up again 10-20% this year. Personally, I still think that living as close to off-grid as possible is the best plan. It's just having the initial cash / time to set it all up. I'm seriously considering becoming a member of 38 Degrees (who campaigned against the Gagging Law). It's one of their topics for campaign. They now have almost 2 million members. I don't think that they are a Christian organisation, but many of the causes they fight for and donate to are Christian in nature (helping the vulnerable, etc.) – in my opinion anyway.
