im telling everyone who is willing to listen to prepare for a cold one this year, we are heading into winter in australia, i saw a sundog at noon for the first time in my life not too long ago, then the leaves started falling off the trees & the chickens stopped laying & moulted unusually early, theres also that big lake in the us which made the news because of freezing over.

i saw another sundog today, now ive seen two.
i researched th meaning & the old time hunters rekon it signifies an early & cold winter.
its been a quiet solar max its good to prepare:

alpaca is one of the warmest wools, possum merino is good & light too, i went to a good will store & asked God to provide & praise the Lord He is so faithful i got some 100% italian merino & a thick icelandic 100% wool cardigan for $6 the both of them.
wool retains its warmth when wet & not as flammable as synthetics, if you are considering an item & suspect it is wool but it has no tag you can pull some fluff off & burn it with a lighter, if it smells like burnt hair & crumbles its most probably pure wool, but if it stinks like burning plastic & turns into a hard ball thats synthetics like nylon etc.
i used to get wool sweaters & cut the sleeves off & make legwarmers out of them too.
but yeah alpaca is really warm like 7 times warmer than merino wool so its good if you can get that & the possum wool is warm too.
also if you do a search; "bushcraft blanket anorak" you can see how the guys take army blankets & craft them into warm gear & i remember reading a guy had i think synthetic base layers underneath but he wore 2 of these anoraks over the top & he was comfortable enough in cold canadian temperatures.

if anyone is interested hammock camping is a great way to get a lightweight above the ground sleep system for on the move or in emergencies. shug emery is the guy for that.
god bless.
cheers!
