I found a church in my city that believes the gifts of the Spirit are for today! And they would be more than happy to pray for me to receive tongues. They sent me a link explaining what they believe re tongues and I'm slightly confused. Can anyone clarify? The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance. (Acts 2:4) The speaking in tongues in this instance is the same in essence as the gift of tongues, but is different in purpose and use.
(1 Corinthians 12:4-10; 1 Corinthians 12:28) What are they getting at with that second part?

i think they are getting at the prayer language aspect of things. some people think that all tongues speaking is done in a language spoken by some group of people somewhere on the earth and that the gift is to communicate with people in other languages. and some think that to go along with that first part you also have that there is the more generic gift of tongues that goes with the baptism in the Holy Spirit, which is used for a prayer language, or what paul called tongues of angels. i tend to be in that last camp but I'm no expert it just makes more sense to me that way.
I've been at assembly of God for a little over a year now mostly because i got baptized in the Holy Spirit and my other church didn't believe in that and of the ones that do assembly of God doesn't ask you to follow a dress code lol. each church is different but one thing is for sure they all have draw backs. denominations are the wrong system. but over all assembly of God has been pretty good aside from the prosperity stuff. anyway i hope that helps. the Holy Spirit empowers you to go deeper than you ever have and gives you desire to and all sorts of other great stuff so just keep praying til something happens.

Be careful. There's a lot of churches out there who believe in tongues but use a spirit called Kundalini to get the job done. I'll post a few videos in the resource section on Kundalini.

i have heard of that but i go with the derek prince concept. if i ask God for the right thing He won't give me the wrong thing. just like the father who if his son asked for a fish would not give him a snake.

I agree with "buildthefarm". Nevertheless during these last months I`ve been feeling a special will to speak in tongues more and more even in my daily routine (and no, when I ask a cup of coffee I don´t do it in stange tongues - lol). And I have been under attack with the "probably there is not from God" thought. I rebuke it and plead the Blood of Jesus upon me and I bind and cast out every spirit of misleading and doubt, and the tongues keep flowing. Therefore It must be the Holy Spirit.

Jakecmartin, yeah – we had a discussion about something similar to this in the 'Campaign begins .. to "destroy" the Charismatic movement (Church Chat)' section - if I'm not mistaken. I agree that we should be careful, but not let it put us off all together either – right? I don't believe in putting pressure on all Christians to speak in tongues either – but, that's just my own personal opinion.

Gifts are gifts to accept or reject. Tongues are Biblical and the revival in this is all part of the move over the last 500 years to re-establish the Church of Acts 2. Certainly satan doesn't want us walking in power, going out into the nations, healing, witnessing the Spirit etc. God is bigger than the other guy and yes, the Derek Prince stuff is very good. Give the worry to Jesus. If He is on the case you'll be fine. Wise advice about denominations. We are the Church of Christ. It has one head and we are His body. We do not follow men.

When it comes to Kundalini, (maybe I should repost this on the actual thread) it isn't something that you get on your own. It seems to be transferred by going to a corrupted church that already has it and having the preacher pray for you. Usually when you receive it, they will place their hands on your forehead and then that's when you get it. When I prayed to receive tongues, I was alone and the only video that I watched was F1's. It's not that tongues and spiritual gifts and casting out demons aren't meant for today, they are, but you need to be careful where you get it from. Technically speaking, when you go to the church and you get someone to pray for you, the trust is no longer placed to God but you are going to the person for that. God isn't praying for you, the person is. So, you need to have confidence that the person is clean from all demonic activity because they may transfer it to you. As long as you judge the fruits and roots it should be very easy to spot Kundalini and thus easy to avoid it. Just as God has miracles, so does Satan and in fact the Bible admits to it several times. (Revelation 16:14, Matthew 24:24, 2 Thessalonians 2:9 etc.). I'm not here to destroy the Charismatic Movement. I agree with the ideas behind much of it. My beef is with Kundalini and other false spirits pretending to be the Holy Spirit.

Jakecmartin, I'm pretty sure there is nothing weird going on at this church, but thank you for the heads-up. I will keep my eyes open.
